“how much should i spend on an engagement ring? I earn £18K a year and ive been saving for a while but i dont know if theres like a standard amount i should spend.”
Well firstly can I say congratulations! There’s no right answer to this question, but it is nonetheless a question which most men will ask at some point in their life. You can buy beautiful engagement rings from a few hundred pounds, and you can spend an almost infinite amount on getting a ring custom designed and set.
The important thing to remember is not that you spend very little on the ring, but rather that you get good value for your money. Value for money could come in many guises, but primarily it means that you have bought a ring for a price that you are happy with, which you think looks good and that will be appreciated by your partner. High quality rings will also retain some of their value, so if you do push the boat out then you should remember that the ring will retain a lot of its worth, and may even go up in value.
A lot of people will tell you that you should spend 2 months salary, or 3 months, or 6 months etc on an engagement ring. I think that this is irrelevant, however, as the most important thing is that you and your partner are happy. Remember, no woman will ever thank you for spending all your savings on an engagement ring and then having nothing left in the coffers for your future together!
