“I got given a pair of earrings which are gold plate but they make my ears really sore and itchy and its a bit red and ouzes. I’m pretty sure its the earrings as I tried other pairs and they seem to be ok. I love the earrings though and dont know if theres anything I can do to stop them from making my ears itchy. I tried putting them in alcohol before I put them on and this didnt seem to make a difference though can you help?”
Earrings seem to be a headache for a lot of people. Most often its because the alloy which has been used is something to which you have an allergy. If the earrings are gold plated then perhaps the plating is very thin and the base metal which the gold has been plated onto is something you are allergic to, normally nickel. If the problem persists then I suggest you stop using those earrings, unfortunately most shops won’t accept returns of earrings which have been worn.
